Golden hour at the Peter Iredale

Description
All that remains of the sailing ship the Peter Iredale is partially buried in the beach sand at Ft. Stevens State Park, where the Iredale ran aground in 1906. One-hundred-twenty years later, the four-masted shipwreck is still a popular visitor destination along Oregon’s north coast. How much of the wreck that rests above the beach sand is at the mercy of the Pacific Ocean. Some years, it’s mostly the bow, and perhaps a mast section or two. In 2023, ocean tides unearthed more of the bow, much of the main mast, more ribs and a good portion of the stern — offering an outline of the Iredale’s 285-foot length.
