An Oregon sunrise at the Astoria-Megler Bridge

As has been many an occasion when attempting to capture a sunrise photo in the Pacific Northwest, Oregon’s skies make other plans. A cloud system camped out above the Columbia Bar on this morning, only relenting long after the sun had risen out of position for the intended image — a composition where many of Astoria’s historic cannery pier remnants stand before a more modern icon, the Astoria-Megler Bridge. The desaturated cloudscape set the mood as a low tide revealed pieces of Astoria’s fishing industry history.
